Curling for Dummies:
- The teams: Curling is played by two teams of four players each. Each team has a skip, who is responsible for making the strategic decisions for the team.
- The objective: The objective of curling is to score points by having your team’s stones (also called “rocks”) come to rest closer to the center of the target, called the “house,” than the opponent’s stones.
- Starting the game: The team with the last stone (also called “hammer”) in the first end gets to decide which team will start the game.
- Throwing the stones: Each player will throw two stones per end, with the skip throwing the last stone.
- Sweeping: The players use brooms to sweep the ice in front of the stone, which helps to control the speed and direction of the stone.
- Scoring: Points are scored when a team’s stone is closer to the center of the house than the opponent’s closest stone. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
